Kibir La Amlak + messenger douglas
- vrijdag 23:30 - 18" Corner
Kibir La Amlak is a live dub show, record label, studio and sound system based in London, UK, founded by Jamie "JT" Thomas in 2009. After a decade of worldwide festival performances, club events, numerous tours and an ever expanding list of titles in the discography Kibir La Amlak has become a household name in the world of roots reggae and dub.
Following the release of the ‘Real Works’ EP earlier this year, Kibir La Amlak will be joined by Messenger Douglas showcasing the recorded works but also with a full dose of freestyle, lyrical fire, in an improvised live dub fashion!
Messenger Douglas is a Birmingham based reggae artist who has been holding his corner since the early 80s, when he used to perform under the name Roland Xerox. He was given the name Messenger Douglas by the legendary Luciano whilst on a trip to Jamaica in the 1990’s. His musical career has seen him supporting and performing alongside some of the top names in the business. He has toured the world as a solo artist and with Overproof Soundsystem. He is a versatile lyrical genius, with so many vocal styles you’ll find yourself wondering if its just one man your listening to or a whole crew! Expect militant lyrics of protest, rejoicing songs of praises, razor sharp DJ styles, roots, reality, culture and eduction.
The show will take listeners on an improvised journey into the realms of dub, with JT as the master of ceremonies, highlighting each track with word, sound and power and Douglas digging deep into his never ending lyrical vaults. A diverse, dynamic, musical experience with a myriad of; tape delays, spring reverb, sirens, echoes, soulful vocals, militant chants, hypnotic bass-lines, steppers drum beats, nyahbingi percussion, hammond organs, triumphant horn lines, ethereal flutes all mixed and blended into one dubwise experience, un-rehearsed, live and direct.
