⚡Bob Marley called them “the young Wailers” after they opened for The Wailers in 1978.

⚡They were the first reggae band to play at a U.S. presidential inauguration—Bill Clinton’s in 1993.

⚡Their track “Can’t Stand the Heat” was featured in Spike Lee’s cult classic Do the Right Thing (1989).

⚡They won a Grammy for Babylon the Bandit and have been nominated 6+ times for their 2019 album Mass Manipulation.

⚡Steel Pulse isn’t just about music—they once sued NYC’s taxi commission for racial profiling in 1992.

Born in Birmingham’s Handsworth district in 1975, Steel Pulse is the Grammy-winning reggae powerhouse that has spent 50 years blending hard-hitting social messages with militant rhythms and global influences. Led by David Hinds (vocals, guitar) and Selwyn Brown (keys, vocals), their sound is both a call to arms and a dancefloor invitation.

With anthems like “Rally Round,” “Roller Skates,” and “Stepping Out,” Steel Pulse helped introduce reggae to mainstream audiences. They toured with Bob Dylan, Santana, and Herbie Hancock while keeping their roots intact.

At Reggae Geel, expect pure reggae fire—deep basslines, razor-sharp lyricism, and a vibe that unites generations. Fifty years in, Steel Pulse is still stepping out stronger than ever, and we can’t wait to welcome them to our Gold Stage again.
